2010 RANGES ROOKIES  SHIELD  

CHESS COMPETITION

The Rookies Shield is a series of five Sunday competitions held in Ferntree Gully Library, 1010 Burwood Hwy (opposite ALDI shopping centre) on the following dates:

Round 128th February 1.00pm to 4.30pm - Game Time: 5 minutes each player Lightning Chess - 9 rounds. Note: This is part of the Knox Festival - allow time to find parking. Completed

Round 2: 2nd May 11.00am to 4.30pm - Game Time: 15 minutes each player - 7 rounds - BBQ lunch. Results submitted to earn ACF Rapid Chess rating. Completed.

Round 3: 20th June 11.00am to 4.30pm - Game Time: 15 minutes each player - 7 rounds - Hot Dog lunch - 'King & Queen of the Mountain' Tournament. Results submitted to earn ACF Rapid Chess rating. Completed.

Round 4: 15th August 12 noon to 4.30pm - Game Time: 15 minutes each player - 7 rounds - BBQ lunch. Results submitted to earn ACF Rapid Chess rating.  Completed.

Round 5: 14th November 12 noon to 5.00pm - Game Time: 15 minutes each player. 'GRAND FINAL' - BBQ lunch. Results submitted to earn ACF Rapid Chess rating. Afterwards, the scores from all five competitions will be totaled to award Rookies Shields for Champion, Runner-Up, Highest Girl Scorer and Top Scorers in each age group.


PRIZES:

Each competition has its own TROPHIES to be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the following age divisions:

OPEN, ADULT (over 16 years), UNDER 16, 14, 12, 10 and 8 age groups and Girl High Score award.

PRIZE MONEY will be awarded to OPEN 1st, 2nd and 3rd, to Girl High Score winner, and to the winner of each age division.

Encouragement Awards will be presented to a boy and girl entrant plus names go into the draw for the Lucky Entrant Prize.

PLEASE NOTE: Each entrant is eligible to win only one prize.

At the completion of the Grand Final competition in NOVEMBER the scores of all five competitions will be totaled to award Rookies Shields to:

Rookies Shield Champion + $100

Runner-Up + $70

Highest Girl Scorer + $50

Highest Scorers in each age group + $40 (Adults, Under 16, 14, 12, 10, 8).

Loyalty Prize Christmas Hamper: Everyone who has entered at least FOUR of the FIVE Rookies Shield Competitions during the year is in the draw for this.

ENTRY FEES: Adults (over 16) - $15  Juniors - $10

Conditions of Play:
       
1. Age division is decided by how old the Junior is on 1st January 2010.
2. Entry is restricted to players whose Australian Chess Federation (ACF) classic chess rating is  less than 1700 on 1st January 2010.
3. Each competitor is eligible to win only one prize (apart from the final awards at end of year).
4. Where there are tied scores, places are decided on computer program count-back.
