RANGES CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL:
IT'S JUNIORS VERSES THE ADULTS !
Among the leaders in Round 6, Don fought off a determined Denise, Ian held on to win against Paul, Joseph capitalized on a mistake by Manny and Cameron had to forfeit against Damar because of the flu.
This has set up an exciting final round in which the leading adults face-off against the leading juniors - each game critical in deciding who will win 1st, 2nd and 3rd and Top Junior and Top Female. Cameron Foo's game against Pearl and Aidan's against Tom will also be important in deciding the Rating (800 or less) Prize.
Here are results from Round 6, current Standings and the FINAL round:

LOTS OF PRIZES FOR THE TAKING !
12 players have registered so far as at 1st September for the
RANGES SPRING BREAK WEEKENDER 18th-19th Sept

Going on ratings, at the moment Domagoj Dragicevic rated 2133 is the runaway favourite to win the $350 FIRST PRIZE money with Karl Zelesco his nearest rival rated 1603 and I'm sure he would like to win the $250 for second prize!
And there are potentially SIX rating groups with $60 1st prize in each!
If you want to join in the fun (and maybe win some of the cash) click on the LINKS at the top left of this page for details and to register.

THE DEADLY CONTEST CONTINUES
After four rounds of the 'LAST MAN (OR WOMAN) STANDING' last Thursday our first casualty to use up both his lives is Chris. He will now go into the 'Dead Man's Chest' Competition - to be joined by whoever is next to be eliminated. This will continue until there are only two tough dudes left standing to take out the title.
But each person eliminated gets a prize!
Here are results and current standings with Carl seemingly bullet-proof:

BIGGEST ROOKIES SHIELD TURNOUT EVER!
It was an exciting problem to have - not enough chess sets to cover the 86 entrants in our biggest ever tournament! But once we sorted out that problem everyone seemed to really enjoy the atmosphere of good fun and tough competition.
Last year's Rookies Shield Champion, Joseph Wong, proved that he is still the one to beat by remaining undefeated and finishing on 7 wins out of seven rounds. Joshua Devarajh came in second in the Open on 6, having only lost one game to Reginald Chong, the winner of the Adult division. Young Ethan Lim decided he was tired of only winning the Under 8 trophies and he nailed 3rd place in the Open with good wins against some of the toughest opponents. Two others were also on a score of 6: new comer Chang Zhang was the top Under 14 player very closely followed by Karl Zelesco as the Under 12 winner. Denise Lim was ranked just ahead of Ruihong Lu on 5 wins. Jamie Cook became the Under 16 winner on 4.5 and on the same score Mingus Go-yang took out the Under 10 trophy and prize money. Althea Wong (yes, sister to Joseph) showed that she is a rising star by winning the Under 8 with a personal best of 4.5.
A big thank you musxt once again go to all the helpers at this successful event - especially Frits, Tom, Peter, Graham, PohChoo, Esther, and Priya - and to Yew Sze as Director of Play. Your help was essential with the high number of entries.
This year's Rookies Shield series is heading towards an exciting conclusion at the final round on November 14th.
